UDHAMPUR: Three-day national level painting camp on Tribal Life and Culture organised by Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation and District Administration Udhampur concluded here on Wednesday.
Former Tribal Minister and sitting MLA Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali was chief guest at the valedictory function while as veteran artist and N D Jamwal, Art historian Dr. Lalit Gupta and Dr. Javaid Rahi, Secretary Tribal Foundation were in the presidium.
Interacting with the artists, Ch Zulfkar Ali said that tribals of Jammu and Kashmir are very rich in term of their culture, tradition and heritage. He praised the visual artists for reflecting the richness of tribal ethnicity and life style through their painting created during the camp. He further said that he was greatly enthused with this unique venture. He said that it is high to establish tribal museum in the State so that the culture of tribal and groups will get preserved, documented and exhibited such a manner which emerges as centre of attraction for domestic and international tourists.
Terming education as only weapon with nomads to come out from present plight, Senior PDP leader and former Minister Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali said that although they have been given constitutional guarantee under Constitution of India but non implementation of schemes on ground has not yielded any results which have turned the situation grim in the era of competitions.
Dr. Javaid Rahi said that the collection of painting created during the camp will be exhibited in the National Painting Exhibition to be held in Jammu, besides a series of programme is offing on tribal culture at Srinagar and Udhampur shortly.
Dr. Lalit Gupta said that this tradition of reflecting tribal culture through the medium art must be carried on. He said that tribal folk art forms should be revived and documented in a scientific manner.
N.D Jamwal praised the organiser and said that this camp will add new dimensions to tradition of realistic painting in J&K.
A number of dignitaries visited the camp included Justice Tashi Rabistan, Judge of High Court, Soujanya Sharma Director Urban and Local Bodies, Dr. A.S Amn Additional Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, veteran writer Dr. Rafeeq Anjum, renowned Sculptor Arvid Gupta, Artist Milan Shama and Zaffar Iqbal Chowhary
Among others the artists who are participating in the camp include R.P Singh, Akram Khan, Satpaul Deol, Rohit Verma, Rakesh Kumar, Sahil Ohri, Narinder Bhagat, Anjli Bharti, Munir Chowdhary, Mahua Gupta, Kanchal Verma and Sakhsi Khullar Gupta.
