JAMMU:A 21-member delegation of Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) led by Gurdev Singh President and Netar Prakash General Secretary called on Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday and sought early payment of the package of Rs 2,000 crore announced by Prime Minister for the Displaced Persons (DPs) of 1947 after preparing a comprehensive road map, as the first instalment of the package.
Gurdev Singh said that the DPs are not clear whether this payment is part of the onetime package based on the recommendation of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) of Minister of Home Affairs as Rs 30 lakh for each family or the one submitted by Omar Abdullah Government as Rs 25 lakh per family. He said that though this package is just a peanut as compared to their loss of lives and properties and suffering they have gone through for the last 70 years, yet this package has acknowledged the legitimacy of their long awaited demands. He regretted that the most important component of the package of reservation for the wards of DPs recommended by Omar Abdullah Government as well as JPC is missing. This should be included in the package, he demanded. Citing declaration sought by administration stating that this is the last and final one time settlement package and no relief shall be claimed thereafter, Gurdev Singh countered its relevance in view of the onetime settlement package of Rs 30 lakh /25 lakh already recommended as the matter was already discussed with Divisional Commissioner in a meeting held on 24th March, 2016.
Apprising CM about day-to-day problems of the DP’s, Gurdev Singh said that DPs are facing lot of problems while obtaining PRCs for their wards and family members. Unwarranted formalities have been introduced in violation of PRC Act 1963 which needs to be checked. Chief Minister gave a patient hearing and assured to settle their long pending grievances soon.
