KATHUA: On the second day of the ongoing seven days NSS special camp, the NSS volunteers of Govt. Degree College Kathua conducted a socio-economic survey of the village Govindsar which has been adopted by the NSS Units of the college for creating awareness among the people of the village and community mobilisation.
During the survey volunteers visited about 150 households and interacted with the families to contain information regarding their educational status, profession, life style, and availability of basic amenities like electricity and water and prevalence of various social issues and evils.
Volunteers also sought information on the awareness of people about AIDS and drug addiction. Electoral participation of villagers and registration in voter list was another important aspect of the survey. Further more the survey also detailed the awareness of villagers regarding importance of holding bank accounts especially under the recently launched Govt scheme Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojna under which an assessment was made regarding the number of people who have opened bank accounts recently. This survey after compilation and detailed analysis would provide a thorough insight into the social and economic well being of the inhabitants.
Second day of the camp began with the morning assembly during which the volunteers offered morning prayers followed by pledge. Three volunteers spoke at length about social evils, drug addiction and need of moral values in the present scenario. The responsibility of the full day activities was shouldered by group of volunteers named ‘Integrity’ under the leadership of Group commander Pooja Mahajan and Ankush Sharma.
Senior NSS Programme Officer Dr. Ram Singh said that the information gathered in this socioeconomic survey will be complied in the form of research document and its copies will be sent to District Administration Kathua, University of Jammu and Department of Youth Affairs, Govt. of India. Speaking on the occasion NSS Programme Officer Dr. Suraya Partap Singh called on the volunteers to step forward to eradicate the problem of Drug addiction from its roots. He emphasised on the role that youth can play in uprooting various social evils from the Indian soil. NSS Programme Officers administered a pledge to NSS Volunteers that they will never become the victim of drug addiction in their life and will lead the crusade against drug abuse and addition.
During the post lunch session the volunteers of ‘Integrity’ group presented a patriotic song and a skit on drug addiction and its harmful effects. The day long activities ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Rachna followed by National Anthem.
