Our constitution is a result of several hundreds years’ slavery period of foreign rulers like Mughals followed by the Britishers and other European countries such as France,Portugal who not only ruled over the vast country with the enforcement of their own laws but also destroyed our traditional centuries old Indian rich culture by establishing their religions of Islamism and Christanity.Notwithstanding, the Indian leaders who were really great patriots continued “Movement of Freedom” and ultimately got Independence on August 15,1947.
The Constituent Assembly headed by Dr. Rajendra Prasad was established. On August 29,1947 the constituent Assembly set up a Drafting Committee under the Chairmanship of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar to prepare a draft of the Constitution. So,November 26 holds profound significance because of our own laws replaced British laws which remained enforced upon us over 200 years.Previously this day was celebrated as the Law Day.Dr. B.R. Ambedkar took two years, eleven months and 17 days to write a great constitution of India which has 395 articles,22 sections and 8 schedules. Our Constitution has 1,45,000 words and it is the largest adopted Constitution in the world. However,at present by the insertion of more articles the number of articles has become 470.With the addition of three sections and four schedules has risen upto 25 sections and 12 schedules respectively.Besides 25 appendices have also been added.
November 26,as Constitution day is not enjoyed a holiday but it is celebrated day by observing many programmes in various Govt. departments, Organisations and the educational Institutions. On this Day various speeches, dialogues, debates, quizzes are organised in schools and colleges so as to be familiar with our fundamental rights as well as fundamental duties to be done by each and every citizen. The year 2015 marked the 125th birth anniversary of Baba Sahib Dr. B.R. Ambedkar who is also known as the father of the Constitution is a great tribute to him. The Constitution Day aims to mark the significance of the Constitutional values among Citizens. Constitution Day also known as Samvidhan Divas or National Law Day is celebrated throughout the country on November 26 every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. Additionally it stresses the importance of the Constitutional fundamental duties vis-a-vis fundamental rights to be enjoyed by each and every citizen of India.Indian Constitution has definitely stood the test of the time and its guidance and the objectives enshrined therein forcefully have enriched our largest democracy in the world to be a great success. It also gives a torchlight to the leadership to steer the vast Country in accordance with the provisions of the griding principles enshrined therein for the Welfare of the all especially the downtrodden people who have lagged behind from the other people of the Society. For the betterment and welfare of the nation, Change is a must. The greatest writer-George Barnard Shaw had beautifully said, “Progress is impossible Without change and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”
Conclusively, the Constitution of India is virtually ‘Life Line’ in the shape of guiding force for the govts. and its 145 crore citizens and the significance that assumes the Constitution Day goes on celebrating on November 26 each year cannot be said exaggerated beyond any doubt.
