SRINAGAR: The Northern Army Commander, Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi arrived in Srinagar on a one day visit to Kashmir valley on Sunday.
Army Commander alongwith GOC Chinar Corps visited Northern Route of Shri Amarnath ji Yatra to take stock of the situation and review progress of the yatra along Nilagrar – Baltal – Domel – Brarimarg – Sangam – Holy Cave route. A natural disaster in the form of cloudburst which occurred on 08 Jul 22 near Holy Cave, in which many valuable lives were lost. Teams from Indian Army, JKP, NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, BSF, CRPF, SASB and other govt agencies worked day and night on war footing to provide rescue and relief to the affected Yatris. The Army Commander interacted with all ranks carrying out selfless service and in recognition presented Commendation Cards to security personnel of the various agencies deployed.

SRINAGAR: General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Northern Command, Lt General Upendra Dwivedi on Sunday called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhavan. Lt General Amardeep Singh Aujla, GOC 15 Corps accompanied the GOC-in-C Northern Command.
The Lt Governor and Lt General Upendra Dwivedi discussed the current security scenario and the overall security management in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Lt Governor was briefed about the active role and efforts of the Army and other security forces in ensuring safe and smooth conduct of Shri Amarnathji Yatra, besides security situation in the forward areas and hinterland of J&K.
The Lt Governor commended the significant role of the Army in maintaining peace, harmony and ensuring a secure environment for the people in J&K, and providing assistance to the people in times of need.
The Army Commander also interacted with the participants of Kargil Vijay Diwas Motorcycle expedition at Nilgrar (Sonamarg). The motorcycle rally has moved towards Kargil as part of Kargil Vijay Diwas 2022 celebration scheduled on 26 Jul. While appreciating the event, he said that such efforts motivate and bind the citizens of the country to idea of the nation. He also remembered the sacrifices done by our brave soldiers in the Kargil war and emphasised to never forget the lessons learnt during the conflict. The Army Commander arrived at Chinar Corps Headquarters later in the day. He was briefed by Lt Gen ADS Aujla, the GOC Chinar Corps on overall security situation in the Kashmir valley. He also gave stock of the prevailing activities for Amarnath Yatra and measures that have been instituted towards safety and security of the pilgrims.
