JAMMU: Vice-Chancellor (VC) University of Jammu( JU) Prof R.D Sharma met 31 students belonging to north-eastern States who are on national integration tour organised by Students Experience in Inter-state Living (SEIL) J and K Chapter. During the interaction, students from Northeast shared their experience with Vice-Chancellor.
The students from Arunachal Pradesh have so far visited Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh to enrich themselves about the culture and heritage of the region. Prof Sharma, while interacting with students, stressed on the importance of education and it is through education only one can climb the ladders of success and meet challenges. Sharma said that the situation can be changed only by making the local youths aware about the situation as well as making them alert.
“Basically, the feeling of ‘neglect’ should be removed by constant interaction between this region and the rest of the country. The various training programmes, capacity building programmes and skill-development programmes should be undertaken to make the youth self-reliant,” he said.
Prof Sharma further said that it is heartening to know that SEIL through its various cultural exchange tours held so far has brought together more than 1,500 participants and 3,000 host families at different places of India. SEIL Coordinator, Apankshu Shekar (SEIL Delegate from ASSAM) also spoke on the occasion.
