SRINAGAR: Congress in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday rejected Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s statement about eliminating “terrorists by terrorists”, saying there was no place for another gun culture in the state as the situation has improved considerably.
“It (the statement) clearly shows the mindset of the NDA government. There is neither any space for another gun culture nor can it be allowed to prevail again in the state, as the situation in the Valley has improved considerably,” Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Ghulam Ahmad Mir said while addressing a convention of the party workers.
The JKPCC president said any such move by the Centre would be defeated.
“It seems the Defence Minister had not done his home work properly, before his departure from the Union capital,” Mir said.
Terming PDP-BJP coalition in the state a divided house, the Congress leader said the parties do not trust each other and have forgotten the issues confronting the state.
Mir blamed both PDP and BJP for misleading and playing pranks with the people on relief and rehabilitation of flood victims and warned the government of consequences, if the issues of flood affected people and traders were not addressed soon.
Mir said Congress being a constructive opposition would always appreciate the pro-people policies of the government and would support in implementing the right decisions that would benefit the people of the state in true sense.
“But we will never compromise on anything which goes against the aspirations of the people of all the three regions of the state and will fight both in Legislative Assembly and Parliament and at every appropriate forum,” he said.
