No dearth of essentials in Valley: Director CAPD

SRINAGAR: The Director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Kashmir (CA&PD) today said there is no shortage of essentials of life in the valley and adequate stock of ration, LPG and petroleum products is available.
The Director while giving the status of availability of essential commodities/ food grains in Kashmir valley said the Department has made all out efforts to ensure availability of ration and other essential commodities to the people during the last 12 days. He said against 4.52 lakh quintals required to be distributed during the month, about 2.90 lakh quintals have been distributed in all the districts of valley upto July 20, 2016. Similarly, he said, out of 0.48 lakh quintal sugar 0.30 lakh quintals were distributed.
With regard to LPG 2.38 lakh cylinders are in stock in the valley which is sufficient for 18 days, while as 1.82 lakh LPG cylinders were distributed among the consumers during the last 20 days, he said.
The Director CAPD said that 2425 KLs of petrol, which is sufficient for 17 days, 10894 KLs HSD, which is sufficient for 30 days and 5270 KLs of K.Oil are in stock in the Valley. He said the petrol pumps operate during the night hours as well to provide fuel to the consumers.
The Director CAPD said as far as availability of vegetables is concerned same are available locally. However, he said for Srinagar city the vegetable Mandi is functioning during night. The Mandi receives vegetables from 11:00 PM to 3:00 AM in the morning and dispatches the same from 4:00 to 9:00 AM to various areas of the city. The Department has arranged curfew passes for drivers of Milk and Vegetable vans so that they are able to move around with milk and vegetables, the Director CAPD said.
