JAMMU: National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) President Subash Shastri on Sunday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to constitute a National Wage Commission to assess and formulate policies for revision of wage structure of the working class throughout the country adding that the issue has not been revisited for more than past two decades.
Addressing NMC workers meet here, Shastri said those who are expressing sympathy with the working class had ample chances to ameliorate their suffering during the period they clung to power.
“That is why the need of the hour is the constitution of the Wage Commission as favorable vibes and expressions are coming from the Prime Minister,” he said.
Shastri asked the Central Government to immediately issue notification regarding the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission report.
“We are hopeful that the Prime Minister will remove any confusion and ambiguity regarding the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission report,” he said.
Shastri expressed hope that the PDP-BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir will also take steps to implement the recommendations made in the Seventh Pay Commission for State employees and pensioners.
“We also hope that the State Government will regularise the service of 61,000 daily rated workers who have been working in various departments for several years,” Shastri said.
Expressing the hope that the 2016-17 State budget which is about to be presented by the Finance Minister in the coming State Legislature session beginning on 25th of May 2016 in the summer capital of J and K State, Srinagar will be pro-salaried/working class budget, Shastri also demanded for allotting separate wage Head in each department in the budget so that 61,000 daily rated workers working in the various departments of the State Government get their monthly salary regularly.
Shastri also said that under the budgetary provisions this interim measure will go a long way to address their financial problems in view of sharp increase in the prices of essential commodities and inflation.
While appreciating programmes and policies of the State Coalition Government headed by Mehbooba Mufti, Shastri appealed to the State Finance Minister to settle the long pending demand of these daily wagers, so that confusion and uncertainty among them could come to end.
Stressing on the need for release of 6 per cent DA installment due from January last in favour of State Government employees and pensioners, Shastri urged him to announce and release the same at the earliest adding that it is the matter of financial routine as the salaried class and pensioners are faced with soaring prices, especially those of essential commodities.
