JAMMU: Even as the standoff between the outstation students, studying in NIT Srinagar, is prolonging and endless rounds of talks have failed to break the impasse, the college authorities have now taken an unusual route through the students ‘stomach’ to win their confidence.
According to agitating students and few faculty members, ever since the agitation is going on in the NIT campus the quality of food being served to the students has improved considerably.
“The quality of food served to us was not good but since April 2016 we are witnessing a sea change. We are eating tasty food and the quality of food has also been improved”. “If we are served half cooked Chapatis now they are properly cooked, if Dal was watery now we are relishing the same as it is thicker now, the quality of rice and sweet dish served with special meals is also tasting richer”, one of the protesting student said.
The reason behind serving quality food across different messes on the campus may also be attributed to the presence of high level team of Union HRD Ministry, the students argued as they were surprised to report sudden changes in their menu card.
Meanwhile, on Saturday even as the state government came on record and claimed the deadlock has been broken and most of the demands listed by the students have been fulfilled the students went ahead with their protest.
“We are boycotting minor exams scheduled next week.” All the non-local students have refused to attend any of the academic examination scheduled to start from coming Monday.
“Accused Academic staff members should be suspended and action against JKP men must be taken without any delay,” they added.
Meanwhile, senior faculty members have raised serious concerns over the poor health of large number of students, who have been stretching beyond their limits to participate in the protest Dharna. The girl students sat on Dharna throughout the Friday night and were still sitting on Dharna despite passionate appeals by the NIT faculty and political leadership of the State.
