Next-Gen GST strengthens vision of ‘One Nation, One Tax’: Priya Sethi
STATE TIMES NEWS
AKHNOOR: Vice-President J&K BJP and former Minister Priya Sethi today hailed the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as one of the most transformative economic reforms of the Modi Government, terming it a “game-changer” for India’s economy.

“GST has strengthened the vision of One Nation, One Market, One Tax, easing compliance for businesses, increasing transparency, and boosting revenue for developmental works,” she remarked.
She was speaking at a special programme organized in Akhnoor to deliberate upon the impact and future scope of GST. In her address, Priya Sethi said the Modi Government deserves credit for implementing GST, which replaced the complex web of taxes with a single, transparent, and uniform tax system across the country.
She further highlighted that GST has empowered small and medium businesses by eliminating the cascading effect of multiple taxes, while also ensuring greater accountability through digitized filing systems.
“The introduction of e-invoicing, digital returns, and continuous reforms in GST are in tune with the Prime Minister’s vision of Digital India and Ease of Doing Business,” Sethi added. Also speaking on the occasion, MLA Mohal Lal Bhagat said that GST has streamlined trade and commerce not only in urban centers but also in semi-urban and rural areas.
“Earlier, traders faced huge challenges at state borders due to different tax regimes. With GST, barriers have been removed, creating a truly unified national market,” he noted. Bhagat further emphasized that the reform has increased efficiency in logistics, reduced tax evasion, and promoted fair competition.
Kuldeep Raj Sharma, District President BJP, described GST as one of the biggest pro-people reforms since independence. He said that the Modi Government’s continuous fine-tuning of the tax structure, rate rationalization, and industry-specific relaxations have provided relief to both consumers and entrepreneurs.
“Today, GST is not only a revenue model but also a governance model ensuring transparency and accountability,” he said, urging stakeholders to contribute ideas for the upcoming next-generation reforms. The programme concluded with a call to further strengthen awareness about GST among small traders, shopkeepers, and entrepreneurs so they can fully utilize its benefits. Speakers unanimously praised the Modi Government’s commitment to simplifying the taxation system and driving India toward becoming a $5 trillion economy. Convenor GST Akhnoor District, Vijay Dogra, Prabhari Vinay Gupta and Seh Prabhari Vaishno Devi were also present and shred their views on GST reforms.
