New addiction
The advent of mobile phones has changed the life of mankind and Indians are addicted to the growing dependency on smartphones and gadgets. They have an urge to remain connected all the time, and given a chance people would like to keep connected while sleeping even. A global study of mobile- device related behaviour and preferences among travellers conducted across multiple countries and continents, found that India leads in checking in constant connectivity and it is a priority when mobile devices are carried in hand from work to home and now on vacation too. Even the news gathering has also changed its face with most of the scribes dependant on Whatsapp for input and whatever comes is taken as true. Mobile connectivity is tool to enhance the working but it is not an end in itself. The study was conducted among 9,642 adults across 19 countries aged 18 and above owning at least one mobile device. About 74 per cent of Indians seek free wi-fi in cafe or restaurant while on holiday. Business travellers use mobile devices to remain closely connected to their home or office, the study said. The dependency on smartphone and gadgets has increased over a span of time and it is very well reflected in traveller’s behaviour. This is visible even on the roads of Jammu where every individual is rubbing on his or her smart phone to be in touch with the latest. Unfortunately mobile devices are the top resource for navigation, for photo-taking and for staying connected to loved ones.
