JAMMU: Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu on Friday chaired a high-level meeting of functionaries including Dean Academic Affairs, Dean Research Studies, Faculty Deans, Director College Development, Registrar, Director, Directorate of Distance Education, Directors, Rectors/HODs and senior officers of the University at Brig Rajinder Singh Auditorium.
Prof Rai in his opening remarks emphasized on the salient features of the NEP-20 and he called upon all the Head of Departments to prepare syllabi/curriculum for Semester-1 to semester-iii of UG programmes so that same can be implemented from July this year. To synchronise the University’s vision with the NEP, the University of Jammu would strive to become one of the leading research-intensive inter-disciplinary University in the Country, said Prof Rai. Vice-Chancellor further emphasized that he is committed to the development and strengthening of the Department of Distance Education at the University. Prof Rai further said that University is envisaging to start a Centre for Skills Innovation & Entrepreneurship under NEP. Thereafter threadbare discussions were held and it was resolved that the syllabus of PG programmes shall be revised for the academic year (2022-22) onwards to incorporate components of Skill education, entrepreneurship and industry-academia projects. It was emphasized that the research calendar shall be strictly adhered to. It was also resolved that the young faculty members will get seed money grant to carry out their research work from the research fund and the same shall be notified soon. Head of Departments were emphasised upon to develop redressal mechanism at the Departmental level for grievances of Research Scholars. Cooperation of all faculty members were sought in further streamlining and strengthening of the examination process. It was announced that University of Jammu shall celebrate 5th September as its foundation day every year wherein faculty members and staff shall be facilitated for their distinguished achievements. The practice of awarding the ‘Best Employee Ward’ also be institutionalized. Further in its endeavour to becoming a Green and Clean Campus, University is envisaging to take a number of initiatives like to install solar panels in all the departments, managing E-Waste and taking numerous steps for beautification and upkeep of Campus.
Besides offering online courses, Directorate of Distance Education is also envisaging to start Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board on weekends which is a huge milestone to educate women who are simultaneously pursuing employment to supplement their family incomes. Further, it shall provide centralized digital labs/ICT facilities for the benefit of the faculty and students.
The Department of Students Welfare is in the process of starting a membership drive for the registration of new members for the recently established Alumni Association. The DSW is also beginning an outreach programme wherein resource persons will be deputed to the nodal Colleges to impart training to the students in painting, fine arts etc. Threadbare discussions were also about the need to sensitize students and scholars to facilitate/follow the prescribed guidelines and rules while using Dhanvantri Library and importance of moving towards a hybrid model for having a blend of physical as well as digital library resources. Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Registrar presented a formal vote of thanks and Dr Ginny Dogra, Deputy Director, DIQA conducted the proceedings of the function and also in her PowerPoint presentation underlined necessary steps required in connection with the preparation of NAAC accreditation cycle IV.
