‘Need to check growing encroachments’

JAMMU: As part of civic action programme IGP Jammu Zone, Danesh Rana along with DIG Shakeel Ahmed Beig interacted with delegation of prominent citizens of District Jammu at Police GO’s Mess here on Saturday.
Most speakers sought a check of growing encroachments and sought CCTVs to regulate the traffic and growing cases of drug abuse. They suggested separate places for terminals for passenger vehicles in order to avoid unnecessary traffic jams, which causes hindrance in the smooth flow.
Responding to the suggestions, IGP Jammu Danesh Rana, said that government is already on job for construction of a multi-tier parking slot at Panjtirthi and Bus Stand Jammu.
“Akhnoor Road is being widened shortly to ensure free flow of traffic o which would also minimize accident rate on that road,” he added.
While highlighting various programmes organised by the J and K Police under civic action programme with DIG Shakeel Ahmed Beig said anti-drug rallies, seminars on social evils, rallies on road safety and sports activities involving young generation were conducted.
Regarding fast growing begging menace in Jammu, IGP disclosed that SHOs concerned have already been directed to carry out audit of these persons so that in case they are illegally settled in Jammu a legal action could be taken.
To a query, he also said that a full body scanner shall be shortly installed at Jawahar Tunnel which is bound to prevent smuggling of poppy straw from Srinagar to Jammu.
