BANDIPORA: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Saif-ud-din Soz on Tuesday claimed that the party had an agenda to serve the people of the State but its coalition National Conference (NC) did not support it.
“I will tell you one thing that our coalition partner did not support us. It wasted our three years for empowering Panchayats. We had an agenda to serve you, but they were miser in this and felt the Congress would take the credit.
“That is why, elections to local bodies did not take place. So, we could not do what we wanted to do for you,” Soz said addressing an election rally here.
The JKPCC president said no government can be formed in the State after the Assembly elections without the Congress Party.
“Keep this in your heart and mind that there would be no government in the State without Congress Party. Either we will lead the government or be a part of that. We will not sit at home but will take part in your struggle for development and prosperity,” he said.
Soz said Congress Party wants to keep the unity and brotherhood in the country intact, but there was a danger to the country because of the politics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“We want the people of all the three regions of the state Kashmir, Ladakh and Jammu, remain united. But right now, there is a danger to India from Modi’s politics. Why am I saying this in Bandipora is because that every vote of yours will be against the communalism and for brotherhood and secularism,” he said.
The Congress leader termed the BJP as a “dark shadow”, saying only Congress can take on the “fascist and communal forces”.
“A dark shadow has come in the country. This government is of the RSS. They have let one man be at the front. The people in the BJP are dying inside as this is not the government of the BJP. Remember this, no party here can take on Modi or communalism. Only Congress can fight him. We will take to task those who indulge in communalism and fascism,” he said.
Film-star and senior Congress leader Raj Babbar  also accompanied Soz during these public meetings.
Babbar said that Congress stands for unity in diversity unlike RSS which is working on the agenda of divisive politics. He appealed to the masses for ensuring a blank for parties propagating divisive agenda to satiate their vested interests.
At Bandipore rally, cine star Raj Babbar alleged that a danger was prevailing over Jammu and Kashmir as the BJP wants to spread “disappointment” in the state so that the saffron party can “capture the whole of India automatically”.
He said “those who rule Delhi want to spread disappointment here anyhow so that they can capture the whole of India automatically”.
“If there is a smile on your faces, then there is smile on the faces of the people across the country. I am telling you honestly that a danger is prevailing over that smile of yours … Some people have come here…,” he said.
Babbar said there was a need to spread the beauty of Jammu and Kashmir and its people across the country to help the party win Delhi again.
“I am happy to see smiles on your faces. This smile is because of the beauty here. Come let us spread this smile across the country. O beautiful people, let us spread this beauty all over the country. We need your beauty so that we can win Delhi again,” he said.
Babbar said Congress was the only party that can take on the BJP and asked people to vote for the party for unity and brotherhood in the country.
“If there is any force to take on BJP in India, it is Congress. I have come here to request you that this is not just for voting for the Hand (the Congress party symbol), but I have come here on behalf of the people of India who want unity and brotherhood and justice,” he said.
“I have come here to see smiles on the faces of the people all over the country,” Babbar added.
The actor-turned-politician said earlier he used to come Kashmir for acting reasons but today he came to the Valley for a political rally for the first time.
He asked people to vote for Congress candidate Usman Majeed saying “I would join you in the celebrations after the party wins the seat”.PTI
