JAMMU: The visiting side of Namdhari XI of Punjab on Wednesday reached the quarterfinals stages of the ongoing Second Sant Gurbaksh Singh Danna Memorial Hockey Tournament at K K Hakhu Stadium, here.
In the only pre-quarterfinal, Namdhari XI registered a big 7-2 win against Power House Club, Poonch.
Avtar Singh remained most successful striker with three goals coming in 15th, 50th and 58th minute. Bakshinder Singh struck twice in the fifth and seventh minute of the match. Other two goals came through Prince (22nd) and Udhampreet Singh (54th) minute.
Earlier, Namdharis’ displayed brilliant skills amidst repeated attacks on the Poonch goal post in the first half of the play. However, guard at the net defended well but could not stop the aggressive forward line of Namdharis’ all the time.
Most of the goals from Namdharis came through penalty corners that too before the drinks break.
From Power House Poonch, Navdeep Ahmed reduced the margin converting a penalty stroke in the 53rd minute. Another goal came through Sohail Azeem in the 56th minute.
Today’s match officiated by the technical penal comprising Amarjeet Singh, Manjeet Singh, Joginder Singh, Jagjeet Singh and D Singh.
