MUMBAI STUDENTS ON TOUR TO J&K 2STATE TIMES NEWS
RAJOURI: The students from different schools of Mumbai is on a tour to Jammu and Kashmir. The tour sponsored by army under its project Sadbhavna aims to showcase the sacrifice and commitment undertaken by the army in J and K.
The national Integration tour comprising of 136 students of 6th to 9th class along with 19 teachers and 4 Principals from different schools across Mumbai during the last few days had visited Army Goodwill School,Hall of Fame at Rajouri and Corps Battle School, Sarol.
The students carried out small arms firing, obstacle training and witnessed various activities like a ride on the Army tank, display of arms and weapons, equipment including demonstration on management and potential of dogs in the army.
The students had witnessed and gained firsthand knowledge on exposure to the challenges face by the soldiers on line of control (LC), casualty evacuation drills and Bunker clearing drills as part of Infantry operations.
Today, the students had an exhilarating experience while trekking in the higher reaches of the Pir Panjal range, Treasure Hunt, Tug of War, debate and quiz competitions and briefing on operational success of Rashtriya Rifles was organised for them. Later, they were shown movies on humanitarian and social development activities under Sadbhavna. The day culminated with a campfire which gave the students an insight into a soldier life.
An interaction with Honorary Lieutenant (Retired) Santan Singh a war veteran filled the students with a sense of pride. 92 year old Lieutenant Santan Singh of 9 JAK RIF participated in 1948 and 1965 Indo Pak War. He was awarded Vir Chakra for his gallantry during 1948 Indo-Pak War in which he had destroyed enemy position by his swift and heroic actions even while being under heavy enemy fire.
The air mobility aspects of Infantry was demonstrated as the students witnessed slithering exercise.The students took part in tent pitching, physical training obstacle course, communication exercise and night patrolling.
