Mufti appeasing separatists
Dear Editor,
After taking oath as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed gave credit to separatists and Pakistan for a smooth conduct of elections in the Valley. A few days later, PDP made headlines for calling the hanging of Afzal Guru as travesty of justice. Thereafter, Mufti released Masarat Alam, a hardline separatist leader, who was behind the protests in the Valley in which 112 youth were killed. His release was much to the embarrassment of the BJP. Hardline Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani held a rally in Srinagar. In the same rally, Masarat Alam and others raised pro-Pakistan slogans, waived Pakistan flags and distributed anti-India CDs in mosques. Due to political compulsions and pressure of the Central Government, Alam was arrested and massive protests erupted in the Valley. Mufti is responsible for the turmoil in the Valley. Why the State Government allowed separatists to hold anti-India rally? The PDP-BJP alliance has been under duress from the time of its inception. The Mufti government has revised the hope in Islamabad that Kashmiris are once again willing to resume their struggle for secessionist. The BJP should quit the alliance in the interest of the party and in the larger interest of the country.
