Mrityunjay excels in Climbing competition

JAMMU: To evaluate the progress of the climbers on the conclusion of first phase of the ongoing coaching camp being organised by Mountaineering Association of J and K (MAJK) since 4th April at Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, here, a competition in Lead and Speed climbing was organised today.
It was an open competition wherein all campers participated in two categories of boys and girls. The impact of the coaching camp was quite visible when Mrityunjay created a major upset to defeat Aman Dogra, the reigning national champion in Speed climbing, to secure the first place. Mrityunjay generated flawless speed to top the 40ft high wall in 9.41 seconds only against Aman Dogra’s timing of 10.79 seconds. Arun Deep, a sub junior climber, clocked 13.66 seconds to clinch the third position.
However, in Lead climbing Mrityunjay was upset by Aman Dogra and Ajay deep, a sub junior climber who topped the wall and bagged the first two positions. Mrityunjay was relegated to the third spot.
In speed climbing in the girls’ category it was a cake walk for Shivani Charak, the reigning national champion, who secured the
first place with a timing of 18.54 seconds against Asma Gul, a sub junior climber, and Nitya Sharma’s timing of 34.80 and 35.15 respectively.
In the last competition of the day Nitya Sharma, a junior climber, pushed Shaweta and Sakshi, both in women category, to the second and third spots to win the Lead climbing title.
In the valedictory function Rahul Sharma, Director of Sprawling Buds School was the Chief Guest who distributed medals amongst the winners.
The competition was conducted by Shashi Kant Sharma under the supervision of General Secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria.
