Mountaineering body prepares climbers for Nationals

JAMMU: To adequately prepare four State climbers who have been selected for the selection camp of Indian team for the Asian Youth Championship, Mountaineering Association of J and K put in extra efforts to train them (climbers) to felicitate their selection in the national team. Presently, all the four climbers are attending to a special 11 days intensive coaching camp at Sprawling Buds School, Bantalab, here under the guidance of their local coach, Shashi Kant. While Aman Dogra, the national speed climbing champion is concentrating on Speed, his colleague in the boys’ category Mrityunjay Sharma is focusing on Lead event. Shivani Charak, the national Speed climbing champion and Asma Gul, a 12 year old talented climber were sharpening their skills in lead and speed climbing as well as bouldering.
The camp, sponsored by J and K State Sports Council, shall continue up to 4th August.
Earlier, Mountaineering Association of J and K had deputed these climbers along with their coach to Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), New Delhi for a 10 days advance training and rigorous practice to give them the necessary exposure of climbing.
The association is hopeful that at least two of its sport climbers shall find a place in the national team for the Asian Youth Championship to be held at Tehran (Iran) from 27th September to 1st October.
