Mohalla Darugiran residents protest power outage, block Residency Road
STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Enraged over erratic power cuts and continuous voltage fluctuation for the last over one month, the residents of Mohalla Darugiran on Friday blocked ever busy Residency Road by staging a demonstration near Hotel KC Residency here on Friday.
The protest was led by Raman Suri, a senior Congress leader and a prominent social worker of Jammu, who happens to be the resident of the same locality.
Addressing the gathering, Suri said that the frequent glitches and power cuts are due to the fact that feeder transformer is catering to both residential and commercial consumers. He rued that the transformer feeding their locality was installed exclusively for residents by the then MLA Jammu East Yogesh Sawhney from his CDF but PDD has put added load on the aforesaid transformer by giving connections to hotels and other commercial establishments leading to frequent power cuts.
Later, SHO City Shakti Sharma, concerned Chief Engineer Ashwani Gupta, XEn Ashok Gupta, AEE Ratnesh Puri and Police Post Incharge, Sohit Trikha pacified the protesting residents of Mohalla Darugiran and on the assurance of these officials, the Dharna was lifted and the road was cleared for traffic. However, Suri sought immediate redressal of the problem and warned of intensifying the agitation if the residents shall not be provided with basic amenities.
Satpal Luthra, Sorab Suri, Raj Kumar Sodhi, Atul Gupta, Pawan Gupta, and Puran Chand were also present.
