CHANDIGARH: BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Friday expressed gratitude to the Modi Government for providing jobs to the families affected by the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and for the decision to grant relaxation in job qualifications.

The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi distributed appointment letters to 47 victims of the 1984 riots after granting them relaxation in recruitment eligibility. Additionally, the concerned department has been directed to complete the verification of 437 other applications and issue appointment letters as soon as possible.
In a statement, Chugh launched a scathing attack on the Congress, stating that its leaders responsible for the 1984 Sikh massacre were always glorified by the Gandhi family. He pointed out that Congress leaders such as Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar, and Kamal Nath, who were either tried or are still facing trials, were found guilty and imprisoned. However, they continue to be members of the Congress party, which exposes the party’s involvement in the 1984 Sikh riots, he added.
Chugh questioned the Gandhi family, asking, “For so many years, when Congress ruled, why were the riot culprits never punished? Instead, efforts were made to give them a clean chit. Has Rahul Gandhi ever visited the widow colony of the Delhi riot victims to check on their well-being?”
Chugh lauded the Modi Government for re-investigation of all closed cases related to the 1984 riots, and impartial investigations carried out, leading to the conviction of the culprits. He emphasized that this demonstrates the willpower of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reflects his deep sympathy, respect, and sensitivity towards the victims’ families.
Chugh also hailed the recent decision as a balm for the wounds of the affected families, noting that for them, this is not just a job but a new beginning and a symbol of restored dignity. After 40 years of government neglect, the victims were finally given appointment letters by the Delhi Lieutenant Governor, along with relaxation in certain qualifications, he added.
