JAMMU: National General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party, Tarun Chugh on Saturday said the policy of zero tolerance against the drug business and the financing of terrorism are the important steps being taken by the Modi government to deal with the problem of drugs.
“The government is strictly working to bring it to zero and India will soon become a terrorism and drug free India”, Chug said while addressing the leaders in a meeting presided over by BJP State President Ravinder Raina, adding that to deal with this problem the central and state governments will have to fight together.
Chugh asks workers to prepare for J&K Assembly elections likely in May 2023
Jammu: BJP Jammu and Kashmir In-charge Tarun Chugh on Saturday asked the party workers to prepare for assembly elections which are likely to take place in May next year here.
“The election to form a government is taking place by May and that means we have very little time left now. The (party) cells have a major role to play in these elections,” Chugh said addressing a series of meetings of senior leaders, morchas, and cells at party headquarters here. Chugh asked party leaders to reach out to voters to ensure the success of the candidates.
BJP National General Secretary Dilip Saikia asked workers to inform the party about the needs, aspirations, and hardships faced by people in their segments to help party construct a robust action programme.
Meanwhile, Wajid Bashir Khan, the Mendhar District Development Council (DDC) member, along with his supporters, joined BJP in presence of Chugh, Saikia, J&K BJP President Ravinder Raina.
Chugh welcomed the new entrants into the party fold and said, “The centre has a policy of zero-tolerance against the drug trade and the financing of terrorism from its profits.”
Chugh has appealed to the governments of all the states that they should also contribute in this drug-free campaign of the central government. Chugh praised Modi government and said that drugs come into India from across the border through drones, smuggling, tunnels, ports and airports. Where did the drugs come from and where were they going, this is a whole network which needs to be destroyed and the government is continuously doing it with intensity.
Chugh said that if the central government and the state governments have to cross the boundaries of the state while conducting top-to-bottom and bottom-to-top investigation by forming Team India, then they can take the help of NCB without any hesitation.
Chugh said that the Narendra Modi government has given powers to register cases to Border Security Force, SSB and Assam Rifles under NDPS. Indian Coast Guard, State Coastal Police Stations and Railway Protection Force have also been empowered, he said adding the the Central Government’s plan is commendable and shows that Prime Minister Modi is committed to a drug-free India.
Coming down hard on narcotics, Chugh said that the states have given around 42 cases to NCB or NIA and the state agencies, NCB and NIA are moving forward to successfully dismantle the entire network. The fight against narcotics has been divided by the Modi government into three important parts – strengthening of institutional structure, empowerment and coordination of all narco agencies, and comprehensive campaign awareness campaign, he added.
Chugh said that the government has also formed a joint coordination committee and many meetings are being held at the central level, apart from this, 619 posts have been created by reorganizing the cadre of NCB. He said that under terrorism- and drug-free India campaign, till now the campaign has been started in 372 districts to reach down to the tehsil.
Under this, more than 14 crore children have taken drug-free oath in more than 2.7 lakh educational institutions, more than 8000 master volunteers have been identified, who do this work by taking minimum honorarium and also promote it through social media.
About one lakh more educational institutions and youth have been connected through this through the national online system. Many senior leaders including Dr. Davinder Maniyal and Ashok Kaul attended the meeting.
