The Indians and Americans have been able to break those barriers which till date even the diplomatic channels could not achieve. Reaching out to the people may be Indian-born Americans or Americans on their soil and taking Hollywood along in a “rock-star” style treatment it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the prestigious Madison Square Garden, also known as MSG and sometimes just simply referred to as The Garden, who connected with some 20,000 Indian-Americans is reflective of the “deep cultural ties” between the two countries. On Sunday, Modi joined a long but exclusive list of international singers and film stars among others who have spoken at the iconic Madison Square Garden. Modi was perhaps the first international delegate from a country to speak at this venue, which opened on 11th February 1968. It is now considered to be the oldest and most active major sporting facility in the New York City metropolitan area. Madison Square Garden is the third-busiest music arena in the world in terms of ticket sales. Many large music concerts in New York City have taken place in Madison Square Garden. Particularly famous ones include George Harrison’s The Concert for Bangladesh, The Concert for New York City following the 11th September attacks, John Lennon’s final concert appearance (during an Elton John concert on Thanksgiving Night, 1974) before his murder in 1980, and Elvis Presley, who gave four sold out performances in 1972, his first and last ever in New York City. And it was ‘Modiwave’ which created the euphoria and rocked the Garden connecting a generation which was born in USA and brought up and settled and some of them only have a link that they are of Indian origin. Even the White House has also admitted to the fact of cultural links both the countries have. They had to wait for Narendra Modi to ignite the passion as he interacted and presented India as investment destination for the slowing down American corporate world. The ties are going to be much stronger than what just highlights, in which the relationship between two countries is important.
