Minister admits printing mistakes in ration cards
Aizawl: Mizoram Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister John Rotluangliana today admitted that gross mistake was committed in printing of ration cards under the Food Security Act (FSA).
Replying to a query from opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) member Dr K Beichhua in the Assembly, Rotluangliana said new and corrected ration cards would be issued in April.
He said 2.4 lakh ration cards were printed for which over Rs 75 lakh was allocated.
Meanwhile, Aizawl-based anti-corruption watchdog People’s Right to Information and Development Society of Mizoram (PRISM) urged Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla to remove Rotluangliana in the ration card controversy.
The PRISM, in a representation submitted to the Chief Minister, said Rotluangliana should be held responsible for the erroneous ration cards.
Dates of birth of almost all the names in the ration cards were found to be January one which, officials said, was due to corrupt files in the office computers.
