Militants attack GREF camp near LoC, 3 labourers killed

Akhnoor: Three civilians working as labourers were killed on Monday in a pre-dawn terror attack by militants on a General Engineering Reserve Force camp near LoC in Akhnoor sector of Jammu.
Two or more militants attacked the General Engineering Reserve Force (GREF) camp around 1 AM near LoC in Battal village, sources said.
Militants likely infiltrated from across the border to carry out the terror attack, sources said.
In the attack, three civilians were killed, they said, adding that the victims were working as labourers with GREF.
Troops along with the police have cordoned off the area and a counter operation has started, they said. A senior police officer said all routes to the area have been plugged and the operation is in full swing.
The dead have been identified as Salman Khan, 21, son of Mujibur Rahman, resident of Mandhata, Pratapgarh, UP, Irshad Alam, 21, son of MD Abdul Gaffar, resident of Dharpur, Pratapgarh, UP and Romesh Topno, son of Sushil Topno, resident of Gamala, Jharkhand.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti condemned the terror attack on a camp of General Engineering Reserve Force (GREF) near LoC in Akhnoor sector of Jammu in which three civilian workers were killed.
Mehbooba conveyed her sympathies to the families of slain GREF workers. During a debate in the Legislative Assembly, she underscored the need for working together to end the cycle of violence and bloodshed in the state.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh also condemned the militant attack on GREF Camp in Akhnoor. In his message, Dr Singh while expressing sympathy with the families of those killed said that such dastardly acts are handiworks of the elements trying to disrupt the peace in the State and they would be dealt with iron hand.
