MIER celebrates 81st Foundation Day;Dr Jitendra exhorts youth to equip with necessary skills

JAMMU: To mark the achievement of 81 glorious years of imparting quality education and academic excellence, Model Institute of Education and Research (MIER) on Sunday celebrated its Foundation Day in a function organised at Abhinav Theatre, here.
Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, PMO, was the Chief Guest while Balwant Thakur, Regional Director, ICCR was the Guest of Honour and Manju Singh wife of Dr. Jitendra Singh was the Special Guest.
Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were principals of different schools and colleges of Jammu, distinguished alumni of MIER, the members of the Board of Directors, high-ranking officials, social activists, prominent citizens and parents.
The Chief Guest was accorded a warm reception by presented a Guard of Honour by the NCC cadets.
Principal, Model Academy, Pramod Srivastava presented a bouquet to the dignitaries. The Chief Guest and the dignitaries paid rich homage to the Founders of MIER late Prof. H.L Gupta and Shanti Gupta by laying floral wreaths at their portrait and lit the Lamp of Learning and Knowledge.
Chairman MIER Dr. Arun K. Gupta described Dr Jitendra as son of soil and an outstanding statesman.
He said that it was a matter of pride that Dr. Jitendra who is an alumnus of Model Academy has brought laurels to the State through his stupendous achievements.
A renowned Diabetologist, Dr. Jitendra has contributed over five thousand published articles including a widely read syndicated column Tales of Travesty, Dr. Arun said adding that Dr Singh was the first ever medical professional to be conferred the coveted Jamna Devi Gian Devi award for journalism.
Dr Jitendra, he said, was awarded gold medal for Oration at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry.
“Dr Singh also received the award of outstanding personality from the Ministry of Health and his work on ‘Stress Diabetes in Kashmiri Migrants’ was published in international Journal of Diabetes in Developing Countries, Dr Gupta disclosed.
While welcoming Balwant Thakur, Dr. Gupta said that he is solely responsible for bringing Dogri theatre to international level.
Dr. Arun Gupta specially welcomed Manju Singh who happens to be an alumna of MIER and described her as an educator par excellence and lauded her role as a social activist, working amidst the local masses in order to highlight the problems being faced by them.
The cultural programme commenced with a mesmerising Saraswati Vandana by MIER choir. A documentary titled ‘MIER: 80 Years of Educational Saga’ was released.
The Natrang artists presented a captivating performance of various dance forms of the State.
Dr. Jitendra lauded the role of MIER for its persistent efforts in imparting and spreading qualitative education and for producing enlightened citizens. He exhorted the youth to equip themselves with the necessary skills to assume leadership role in all walks of life. He applauded the spectacular performance of the Natrang artists and their endeavour to revive and preserve the rich culture, traditions and heritage of the State.
Balwant Thakur congratulated MIER and said that MIER has been a pioneer institution in preparing high quality specialists and professionals in the field of education.
A vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Adit Gupta, Director MIER who assured that the institute will continue to serve the society with greater drive and enthusiasm.
