Mercury dips in city after overnight rainsNew Delhi: Delhiites today woke up to a cool morning following overnight rains and storm which led to a steep fall in the mercury even as traffic snarls were witnessed in several areas due to water logging.

“The minimum temperature was today recorded at 23.1 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season’s average. It is down by 7.4 degrees from yesterday’s maximum temperature,” said a MeT department official.

The Safdarjung observatory, figure of which is considered the official figure for the city, recorded 10.2 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours while the areas under Palam, Lodhi Road, Ayanagar and Ridge observatories recorded showers measuring 10.6 mm, 8.5 mm, 5.6 mm and 6.2 mm respectively.

Humidity was recorded at 74 per cent at 8.30 AM.

The MeT Office has forecast overcast conditions along with the possibility of rains during the day.

“The skies will be partly cloudy. Rain and thunderstorm are likely to occur in some areas.

“The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 30 degrees Celsius,” the weatherman said.

Yesterday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 40.9 degrees Celsius, while the minimum had settled at 30.5 degrees Celsius.
