JAMMU: Governor N.N. Vohra has accorded approval to the amendments in the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Education (Gazetted) Service Recruitment Rules, 1979, to bring them in line with the Medical Council of India norms. The Medical Council of India (MCI) had pointed out deficiencies with regard to the minimum teaching and research experience required for promotion of the faculty members and pointed out that the deviations should be met at the earliest possible to avoid de-affiliation of the additional 100-150 seats in the two medical colleges.
To immediately satisfy the MCI norms, approval has been accorded to reduce the number of years required for the upward movement to the level of professor from nine to seven years. As per the amendments, the minimum teaching and research experience required for Faculty Members of Medical College for the post of Professor is: Associate Professor in the concerned subject for three years in the Govt. Medical College Srinagar / Jammu; four research papers accepted/published in indexed/national journal as first/second author on cumulative basis. Out of these four research publications a minimum of two research publications must be published during the candidate’s tenure as the Associate Professor.
For the Post of Associate Professor, the requisite qualification is: Assistant Professor in the concerned subject for two years in the Govt. Medical College Srinagar / Jammu; two research papers accepted/published in an indexed/national journal as first/second author during the candidate’s tenure as Assistant Professor. For the Post of Assistant Professor, the requisite qualification is: Lecturer in the concerned subject for two years in the Govt. Medical College Srinagar / Jammu; one research paper accepted/published in an indexed/national journal as first/second author during the candidate’s tenure as Lecturer.
