JAMMU: The MDU Rohtak shall be playing against the star studded side of Punjab University (PU) Chandigarh in men’s final while Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has been pitted against Delhi University in the women’s title clash of the ongoing North Zone Inter-University Badminton Tournament, here on Friday.
Earlier, in the men’s semifinals, MDU Rohtak defeated LPU Phagwara 3-0. The Results: Ketan beat Abhishek 21-06, 21-07; Ankit defeated Ravi Kanth 21-08, 21-09; Ketan and Surinder outplayed Ashwani and Abhishek 21-05, 21-07.
In other semifinal, PU Chandigarh trounced Kurukshetra University 3-0. The Results: Sumit downed Amit 21-12, 21-10; Rupinder blanked Divyansh 21-05, 21-09; Rupinder and Kamaldeep beat Amit and Divayansh 21-12 (retired hurt).
Meanwhile, in women’s semifinals, Delhi University trounced MDU Rohtak 2-0. The Results: Ekta defeated Komal 21-10, 21-14; Ekta and Nidhi outplayed Komal and Lalita 21-12, 21-18. In another semifinal, AMU downed GNDU Amritsar 2-0.
Earlier, in the quarterfinals, hosts University of Jammu (JU) lost to last year’s semifinalist, GNDU Amritsar 0-2. The Results: Akanksha Raina lost to Ritu Vinayak 08-21, 05-21; Akanksha and Prabhjot lost to Ritu and Kiranpreet 17-21, 12-21.
In other quarterfinals, Aligarh Muslim University defeated Punjab University Chandigarh 2-0 while Delhi University trounced PTU Jallandhar 2-0. In yet another quarterfinal, MDU Rohtak trounced Punjabi University Patiala.
Similarly, in men’s quarterfinals, PU Chandigarh trounced HP University Shimla 3-1 and Kurukshetra University outplayed GNDU Amritsar 3-1. In other last eight stages matches, LPU Phagwara beat UTU Dehradun 3-2 while MDU Rohtak defeated Delhi University 3-0.
