JAMMU: A pedestrian was killed when a speeding matador hit him near Domana, here on Monday morning.
According to the police, driver of the Matador on way to Jammu from Machine Domana lost control over the vehicle. As a result, the Matador plunged into the Ranbir canal after hitting a pedestrian.
The pedestrian was identified as Rajinder Kumar, son Kartar Singh, resident of Domana who was shifted to Government Medical College Hospital by locals was declared dead by doctors on duty. The driver, who was also injured in the accident, was also shifted to the GMC. His condition is critical till the report was filed.
Later, relatives of deceased held a protest by placing the body on Jammu-Poonch highway. The road was blocked for several hours. The protesters were demanding action against the guilty and compensation for the kin of the deceased.
To pacify the protesters, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Avny Lavasa accompanied by SP Rural, Arun and other officers reached the spot and assured for compensation and action against the culprit. On her assurance, the protesters lifted the protest.
Meanwhile, Police has registered a case FIR No 167 under Sections 279, 377 and 304 A RPC at Police Station Domana and started investigation.
