MANAPPURAM FINANCE THEFT;SIT arrests 3 accused, recovers robbed items worth crores

JAMMU: A Special Investigation Team of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday cracked the Manappuram Finance Limited robbery and arrested all the three accused persons.
“All the three accused, who robbed the lockers of Jammu based Manappuram Gold Loan and decamped with gold valuing about Rs 1.51 crore along with cash, have been arrested,” S D Singh, Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone told reporters here this evening.
He said the gold weighing 10 kg 230.90 gm consisted of 380 different gold ornaments.
The IGP said that on February 20, a complaint was lodged by one Pankaj Chib, son of Suram Singh, resident of Roop Nagar Enclave, who was heading the Jammu based Mannapuram Gold Loan.
The complainant had stated at Bathindi Police Post that two to three persons had decamped with gold ornaments and cash from Manappuram Finance Ltd, based at Malik Market, he added.
The IGP said that a special team was constituted under the supervision of SSP Jammu, SP City South besides SDPO City East Jammu and a hunt was launched to nab the accused persons.
“During the course of investigation, a Police team from Trikuta Nagar Police Station picked up one Assistant Branch head Sunil Kumar and interrogated him and on his disclosure, his accomplice Sangram was picked and arrested from Punjab,” said Dr Singh. He said that both the accused were previously known to each other and employed with Manappuram establishment.
During the course of investigation, the accused spilled beans how they planned and hatched a criminal conspiracy along with another absconding accused, related to Sangram Singh. “We have taken all the three accused into custody and also recovered robbed items from their possession,” added the IGP.
