Mamata visits SSKM Hospital following clash
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today visited the state-run SSKM Hospital here and asked the authorities to be more sensitive in handling of relatives of patients in the wake of a clash between junior doctors and the family of a deceased.
Banerjee, who also holds the health portfolio, directed the authorities in handling situations arising out of death of patients, saying “relatives of patients should be carefully treated and the doctors should be more patient while interacting with them.”
“Why should even one per cent behave badly, they should understand the situation and act accordingly,” she said during her surprise visit to the hospital following late last night’s clash between junior doctors and relatives of a patient after his death.
The chief minister, within whose constituency the multi-speciality referral hospital lies, said she was taking the matter “seriously” and has asked the hospital authorities to ensure that such incidents did not recur.
