Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a massive five-year Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or Clean India Campaign on Mahatma Gandhi’s 145th Birth Anniversary. platform st iconAbout 31 lakh Central Government employees working across the country took a pledge of cleanliness in various public functions to be a part of the Narendra Modi administration’s ‘Clean India’ Campaign.
In addition, lakhs of State Government employees have been asked to be part of this massive drive launched by the Prime Minister.
For a campaign of this nature to be successful, there is a need to create massive public awareness and to ensure participation and action for cleaning homes, government offices, schools, hospitals, work places, streets, roads and markets, railway stations and bus terminals, statues, monuments, rivers, lakes, ponds, parks and other public places.
The whole country has geared up for the campaign. What actually can be done to make it a success at the ground level is a big question?[/box]

The point is, we have miles to go if we want to achieve an Entirely Clean India with every house hold having toilets, clean water and a clean surrounding. And it’s not Prime Minister or a ministers, who are picking up broom in their hands, to achieve that in one day. Rather it’s a constant process of communicating, inspiring, awakening and educating the people.”
Moreover, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan itself has great objectives. It aims to stop open defecation with every village having Pucca toilets for every house hold, clean roads and lanes, waste management system and clean water for all.”
Kapil Verma, a Govt. employee shared, “I believe the cleanliness initiative taken up by PM needs to be followed by all in the right manner and spirit. Just going out and using the brooms to clean some dust/garbage on the street and getting flashed in the media will not serve the desired purpose. We should need to follow it strictly for maintaining cleanliness; be it on streets/public places or at home. Also, every citizen has a big role to play in this initiative.”
