Majority community youths manhandle devotees

POONCH: Tension gripped Poonch on Monday morning as the news broke out about some youth of majority community forcibly entering into Lakshmi Narayan Temple Jhullas and manhandling members of minority community. This is the third incident in a row within a week where attempts have been made to ‘desecrate’ temples in Jammu region.
Sources said that 3 to 4 youths of majority community barged into the Lakshmi Narayan Temple Jhullas and were restrained by youths, taking part in the Aarti, from going into the temple. The majority community youth objected use of loudspeaker during the evening time.
Soon after the news spread in the border town, hundreds of people from minority community also rushed to the spot and asked the police to arrest the miscreants. Similarly people from majority community also gathered there and started sloganeering against each other.
Seeing situation turning volatile, Dy SP HQ Mujeeb-ul-Rehman and SHO Poonch city, Jatinder Raina along with the Police party rushed to the spot and pacified both the parties.
The minority community sought lodging of FIR against the miscreants and the Police assured them of action against culprits.
Later, Deputy Commissioner Poonch Haroon Malik, convened a meeting of civil society members and appealed them to maintain peace and brotherhood in the district. The people from minority community raised the incident and asked the administration to take strict action against such persons who were deliberately trying to disturb peace in the district. They also demanded investigation into the matter and alleged that there was a deep conspiracy to target religious places of minority community.
Prominent leaders from majority community also condemned the incident and asked the administration to take the matter seriously and do not allow such people to disturb the peace in the district.
Various Hindu organisation condemned the incident and demanded probe.

Internet snapped in Jammu
JAMMU: Internet services in Jammu region will be snapped from 4:00 AM on 21 June till further orders.
Confirmed reports in the administration say that the mobile internet services shall be snapped, starting 4:00 AM tomorrow morning.
As of now the services are to be stopped for a few hours but can extend till further orders.
This is being done for entire Jammu region as preventive measure. Sources informed that Poonch incident has sounded alert.
