Madras Bar seeks elevation of J&K CJ as SC Judge

JAMMU: Bar Association of Madras High Court in a communiqué to Chief Justice of India (CJI) requested for elevation of N Paul Vasanthakumar Chief Justice of J&K High Court as Judge of Supreme Court.
The communiqué reads that N Paul Vasanthakumar is senior most Judge of Madras High Court and fittest person to be a Judge of Supreme Court.
President Bar Association Madras High Court has urged CJI that Madras Bar as one of the stakeholders in the sacred institution of the Judiciary wanted to place this request before the Collegiums of the Supreme Court. “The vacancies in the Supreme Court bench have increased which are to be filled to aid the speedy disposal of cases”, he said, demanding elevation of Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar.
Stating that Justice R. Banumathi is the only Judge from Madras High Court, the communiqué added that there is inadequate representation of Madras High Court in the Supreme Court. “There always had been two or more Judges from the Madras High Court serving at a time before the Supreme Court. Citing that Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar who was elevated from the Bar of the Madras High Court and is serving as Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir will retire on 14th March 2017, is the senior most Judge from the Madras High Court and is the fittest person to be a Supreme Court Judge”, the communiqué appealed to the Chief Justice of India and the collegiums to consider his elevation to the Supreme Court.
