JAMMU: The J and K State Sports Council on Saturday closed the only swimming pool in the state at MA Stadium, here for three days for maintenance. However, the decision has irked the visiting swimming enthusiasts.
“Alright, the maintenance is required but there should be a prior information. Today, we come and find a notice placed on the gate of the swimming pool. Our time and money is precious, the Sports Council must take a note of it,” annoyed with the pool closer, Dr S.K Gupta said.
Unhappy over the pool closer, these senior swimmers called up the Secretary, State Sports Council, who, however, was aware of the maintenance decision by the concerned staff. The Secretary assured the caller that the pool shall start normal functioning soon.
“Before approaching the Secretary, I tried to contact Divisional Sports Officer (Jammu), Rajan Sharma, who first did not pick up the call and then turned his phone on not- reachable mode,” mentioned another swimming at MA Stadium.
Swimming coach, Vikas Magotra, who by the time reached the swimming pool, spoke to the ‘angry youngmen’. He told the protesting swimmers that what-ever the Sports Council has done was for their welfare.
Vikas told them (swimmers) that a decision to close the pool was taken at the official level today only, so prior information could not delivered to the trainees.
