Ludhiana : A group of prominent citizens from Ludhiana have come forward to contribute relief materials for the flood-hit people of Jammu and Kashmir.
While this group is setting up seven collection points to collect the relief materials, a few social workers and residents here are contributing money and other articles like warm clothes, blankets and food items to help those stranded in the devastating floods.
“We are deeply moved by the devastation in the Jammu and Kashmir valley. We were really moved by the death of hundreds of residents of that state and thousands been rendered homeless. So, we a group of seven volunteers are organizing various collection camps in the city,” said one of the volunteers.
“We are also in touch with the various manufacturing associations and clubs so that relief material can be collected on large scale,” he added.
The army flagged off seven trucks of eatables and other relief material for the victims.
With the efforts of Brigadier Jagdeep Dahiya and units of the Ludhiana Military Station, 30.6 tonnes of material was sent today.
“We have sent 24,557 litres of drinking water, blankets, biscuits, shawls, sweaters, rice, pulses and other food items besides candles, torches and medicines,” said Deputy Commander, Colonel SM Bharti.
The relief materials were donated by the residents here besides several other organisations, including Coca Cola, SPS Apollo Hospital, Hero Cycles, Oswal Knitwears, Oswal Hospital, Cremica biscuits, Spring Dale School, Indus School, Kendriya Vidyalya, Yellow Chilly and Hot Breads restaurants.
