Lt Guv’s concern over drug abuse must be translated in reality by wiping out drug mafia: Team Jammu

JAMMU: Terming drug abuse as one of the dangerous and threatening challenges before humanity, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Jammu, Kathua, Samba Range, Dr Sunil Gupta on Sunday sought the support of every section of the society to eradicate this menace.
“Neither police nor society alone can face this’ll menacing challenge which is destroying our younger generation”, DIG Dr Sunil Gupta said while addressing a massive programme organized by the Team Jammu on eve of “World Anti-Drug Day” at Jagat Resorts Banquet, Shakti Nagar, here on Sunday.
Members of J&K Tawi Trekkers, Samvedna (NGO), noted Dogri writers, artists, singers, musicians senior citizens and volunteers of Team Jammu from various City Colleges, Jammu also participated in the program.
DIG, JKS, Range, Dr Sunil Gupta (IPS), was the chief guest on the occasion, while Chairman, Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal presided over the function.
SSP, Jammu, Dr Vinod Kumar (IPS), President J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, Advocate Vikram Sharma were Guests of Honour while SP, City North, Shivam Sidharth (IPS), eminent Journalist and senior Editor, Times Now Channel, Pardeep Dutta and Dogra Journalist, Ashish Kohli were special Guests on the occasion.
DIG Dr Sunil Gupta emphasized the joint fight by involving every section of the society to protect the younger generation from this menace. He exhorted the society to remain vigilant against the drug mafia and inform the police as soon as possible in case spotting any suspicious activities. “Your support is must to eradicate this menace from the roots”, the DIG said.
Advocate Vikram Sharma and SSP, Dr Vinod Kumar in their respective addresses appreciated Team Jammu for organizing such awareness programme on eve of World Anti-Drug Day but emphasized redoubling the ongoing efforts. “You have to intensify your efforts because drug abuse increasing at a threatening and dangerous level in Jammu province”, they cautioned.
SP City North, Shivam Sidharth, Journalists Pradeep Datta and Ashish Kohli in their speeches appreciated the artists led by Pawan Verma who performed a small skit to educate the younger generation against drug abuse.
Some drug victims whose identities were kept secret with masks also spoke on the occasion and shared their pain and agony as addict and also detailed their experience in rehabilitation centers. They also informed how volunteers of Team Jammu successfully guided them for rebuilding their careers.
Welcoming, Lt Governor, J&K UT, Manoj Sinha’s concern over growing drug abuse here in Jammu and Kashmir, Chairman, Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal asserted, “Lieutenant Governor’s concern should not remain mere concern but it must be translated in reality and drug mafia has to be dealt with iron hands to save younger generation. The time has come to launch operation flush out against drug lords operating in J&K especially in Jammu Province.”
Seeking support of the civil society to eradicate menace of drug abuse, Team Jammu chief, Zorawar Singh Jamwal further said that cooperation of every section of the society is must to liberate our younger generation from the yoke of drug addiction. “We have to accept this reality that drugs are slowly tightening grip on the youth of the State. It is high time to start a deciding war against this menace”, he said.
While appreciating the police for launching campaign against drug mafia in Jammu Province, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, however, said that still there are some black sheep among cops involved in helping drug mafia. “Need of the hour is to single out such black sheep to make the ongoing campaign more effective and result oriented”, he said.
Team Jammu chief Zorawar Singh Jamwal further suggested tips to effectively deal with peer pressure. “The biggest reason teens start using drugs is because their friends utilize peer pressure. No one likes to be left out, and teens as well as adults too find themselves doing things they normally wouldn’t do just to fit in,” he explained.
Noted Dogri poet, Thakur Randheer Singh Raipuria enthralled gathering with their famous Dogri poems written on drug abuse.
Earlier, Law Student, Vasudev Singh welcomed the jampacked gathering, while Happy Jamwal, Rajat Manhas, Keshav Chopra, Pratap Singh, Ashok Kumar, Suresh Sharma and Sanjay Verma also spoke on the occasion.
