Lohri celebrated with religious fervour

JAMMU: The festival of Lohri was celebrated in Jammu on Wednesday with traditional fervour and gaiety as various functions were held across the region to mark the day.
State President, Shiv Shakti Sena, J and K, Rakesh Gupta wished greetings to the people of J and K State on the occasion of Lohri Festival.
He prayed to Almighty for restoring peace, normalcy, brotherhood and progress in the J and K State in particular and also all over India.
Rakesh Gupta, his Party members and other local inhabitants celebrated the Lohri Festival at Party Office, Janipur, Jammu, as per the old age rites by burning bonfire and distributing Moongfali, Gachak and Rewrian amongst the people.
Gupta farmer expressed grave concerned over the recently cowardly act by militants at Air Force Station, Pathankot, thereby killing innocent people and defence personnels and injuring others.
Gupta applauded the role of army authorities who immediately responded bravely and killed all the militants involved in the attack.
Party also expressed shock over the demise of Mufti Mohd Sayeed, former Chief Minister and prayed to Almighty to give courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss.
Sat Pal Sharma, Ashwani Gupta, Shiv Deep, Kunal Kumar, Rahul Gupta, Sandeep Dogra and Sandeep Kumar were also present.
Shri Sanatan Dharam Sabha, Jammu on Wednesday celebrated the festival of Lohri with religious fervour and gaiety wishing brotherhood, peace and love in the society.
The function began with the welcome address by the President of the Sabha, Jagdish Dogra. State President BJP and MLA Jammu West Sat Sharma presided over the function.
Dogra welcomed MLA Priya Sethi, MLA East Rajesh Gupta, MLC Ashok Khajuria and prominent citizens.
During the welcome address, he emphasised the importance of festivals in our society and mentioned how these festivals marks the end of bad deeds and ushers the brotherhood, peace and love among the people.
Sat congratulated the people on the auspicious occasion of Lohri and mentioned importance of festivals in our society and blesses the people of Jammu and Kashmir to live with peace and prosperity.
Other prominent citizens Priya Sethi, Rajesh Gupta and Ashok Khajuria, Members of Parliament Jugal Kishor Sharma and Shamsher Singh Manhas also congratulated and prayed the Almighty for peace and harmony in the society and State.
In the end a colorful and cultural programmers were organized by the students of schools governed by Shri Sanatan Dharam Sabha. Lohri songs and Bhangra was performed by the students. The executive members of the Sabha were honoured for their contribution towards Snatan Dharm.
Others present were Jadish Sharma, Bodh Raj, Vijay, Bodh Raj Sharma, Prof. B. Raj and Dr. B.R Sham.
Vote of thanks was presented by Parbhal Singh, General Secretary of the Sabha.
New Young Blood Organisation celebrated Lorhi Festival at Vridh Ashram Amphalla where they donated fruits and sweats to the inmates of the Ashram.
This programme was held with the coordination of Chairman of the Organization, Ashok Verma who said that the he is running the organization from more than 15 years for needy persons.
Ashok announced that they are going to organize blood camps in the month of February for the children who are effected from the Thalassemia.
Others who attend the programme were Suplesh Sharma, Naveen Gupta, Kuldeep Singh, Dr. Rajinder Thappa, T.S Premi and Rakesh Verma.
Traditionally, families that have witnessed marriage or birth of a boy child in the year gone by celebrate the couple’s or the little boy’s Pehli Lohri with added enthusiasm and grandeur but BIG FM gives the Lohri a social twist and spreads the message of gender equality by celebrating the festival in the same traditional manner for the girl child in an equally BIG way.

The initiative is also supported by the Bollywood Megastar Amitabh Bachchan who urged people to not only participate in the celebration but make this a daily tradition to celebrate the birth of a girl in the family.

Rajinder Pal Singh of Sanjay Nagar expressed his happiness like, “My brother is serving in Merchant Navy and he has not been able to see his daughter since her birth but it was his dream to celebrate his daughter’s first Lohri with BIG FM’s ‘Kudiyan Di Lohri’. Team BIG has fulfilled my brother’s dream”.
Many other voices had the same happiness celebrating their daughter’s first Lohri in a grand way and spreading the message of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ that is also the main theme of BIG FM’s upcoming mega 3 days festival ‘BIG Power Girls- Inse Hai Zamana’ which is going to celebrate girlhood in a big way.
Dogra Sadar Sabha, J and K, celebrated Lohri festival with bonfire in the premises of Dogra Sadar Sabha with religious fervour and zeal where members of Working Committee participated. The speakers threw light on the importance of this festival.
Gulchain Singh Charak, President Dogra Sadar Sabha, congratulated the people of Jammu for maintaining communal harmony. He prayed for the universal brotherhood, peace and social harmony of the region and the State.
He exhorted further for the celebration of such festivals with gaiety and enthusiasm and extended felicitations on the auspicious occasion and prayed for the peace and prosperity of the people of the State.
Prominent person present on the occasion were Dr. N. K. Dogra (Senior Vice President), Prem Sagar Gupta (General Secretary), Munish Pathania and Romesh Chander.
Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha Parade celebrated Lohri festival with fervour and enthusiasm.
A colourful function was held in the premises of Sabha where large number of people from different walk of life participated. The function, presided over by President of the Sabha, Ved Parkash Sharma, was started with Agni Poojan amidst chanting of Vedic Mantras by Pandits.
Purshotam Sharma highlighted the religious background of Lohri festival. Senior BJP leader Chander Mohan Sharma stressed upon the young generation to follow the path of brotherhood and communal harmony. Sweets were also distributed on the occasion.
Others prominent members of the Sabha, religious and social activists present on the occasion were Satyanand Sharma, Surinder Sharma, Shiv Charan Dass, Jagan Nath Sharma, Shiv Ram Sharma, Subash Shastri, Gurdass Sharma, Mohan Lal Sharma, Girdhari Lal Sharma, Puran Sharma, Sat Paul Sharma, Romesh Sharma, Raman Sharma, Kartar Chand Dubey, Krishan Lal Sharma, Vijay Sharma, Girdhari Lal Sharma and Shanti Saroop Baru.
A Lohri festival was celebrated at Press Morh, Bahu Fort Jammu by the Congress workers under the leadership of Dewan Chand, Congress President, W.No 47 and Rita Kumari Ex-Corporator, W.No 47. People from different sections of the society participated in it and prayed for maintaining communal harmony in the country.
Vice Chairman, Kissan Khet Congress, Bharat Priye celebrated Lohri at Maheshpura Chowk. People from all caste, creed and religion participated in function. He distributed Parsad among the people. He also prayed to God that this Lohri bring happiness among farmers.
Youth Congress celebrated Lohri with inmates of Old Age Home Amphalla Jammu Ward No. 17 Jammu West and distributed fruits, sweets, mufali. The youth congress leaders were led by Ricky Dalotra General Secretary Youth Congress Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha Constituency and Anoop Gupta General Secretary Jammu Poonch.
We shall celebrate every festival with inmates of old age home. He said the youth Congress is committed to solve their problems irrespective of time.
Members Daljeet Singh Ward President Rocky Kumar, Tushar Kumar, Tipu Kumar, Janmeet Singh Chetan Sabarwal, Varun Kumar, Rahul Kumar were also present on the occasion.
Lohri Festival was celebrated at Raghunath Temple Jammu with religious fervour and enthusiasm. In this connection a function was organised by J and K Dharmarth Trust. ITBP, J and K Police and other religious organisations and devotees also participated in the function.
Pujaris of Raghunath Mandir chanted religious Mantras and offered Aahutis in the fire which was lit to celebrate Lohri. Later Prashad distributed among the participants and devotees.
Secretary Dharmarth Trust, Shashi Khajuria, staff members of the Trust were also present.
