JAMMU: While cross section of society on Friday hailed Governor N. N Vohra for cracking down on 100 delinquent doctors, voices are growing louder over similar action against corrupt officers and officials.
A senior retired officer told STATE TIMES that while a determination has been shown to nail the absentee doctors, who have left the people in lurch, the same axe should fall on the corrupt, whose cases are almost investigated but await sanction for prosecution.
“A number of tainted officers, some of them with anticipatory bails in their pockets, are holding lucrative positions in the government despite corruption charges prima facie established against them”, he said on the condition of anonymity, adding that sanctions for their judicial dispensation have been withheld due to political interference and other considerations.
Former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed had informed the Legislative Council on 6th October 2015 in Srinagar that sanction for prosecution is awaited in 25 cases of corruption registered against several government officials. The House was told that 25 cases of graft and illegalities were pending for prosecution sanction, which included several top officials and a former minister.
According to General Administration Department, 139 cases were received for according sanction for prosecution from the Vigilance Organization (VO) and Crime Branch since 2011. Of these, 126 were received from VO and 13 from CB.
Sources told STATE TIMES that several of the ‘tainted’ officers have either retired or expired but the government preferred to keep their cases in backburner rather than pursuing these vigorously.
“The Governor’s Administration is seized of the matter and the files pertaining to accord of sanction for prosecution have since been summoned by the Governor”, a reliable source told STATE TIMES, adding that action on these apart from various stringent measures are expected within days.
