LMD books restaurants for overcharging

REASI: The Department of Legal Metrology Department, Reasi, booked two restaurant owners for overcharging and imposed a fine of Rs 12,000.
A team led by Assistant Controller Legal Metrology, Rajesh Heera booked a restaurant owner for charging more than MRP on bottled water on the pretext of additional VAT.
Pertinent to mention that VAT has to be charged on food prepared by the restaurants only and product like bottled water, cold drinks are to be sold at the MRP and no additional VAT can be charged on these products since it is included in the MRP.
In another case, the owner of the restaurant was fined for selling curd at exorbitant rates.
