KATHUA: On the directions of District Development Commissioner Kathua Ramesh Kumar, a team of the Legal Metrology Department Kathua headed by the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Kathua Ajay Kumar Verma comprising of Inspector Legal Metrology Kathua Vicky Sharma and Inspector Legal Metrology Dayalachack Devi Lakhanpuria conducted intensive checking of various business establishment at Chadwal, Dhaloti,Chan Arrorian, Chappaki,Kotha, Lakhli, Ladwal, Dharmani, Dayalachack, Hiranagar, Gujru Nagrota, Barwal, Kalibari, Maroli, Hatli Morh, Plassi, College Road Kathua, Police Line Road Kathua, Main Bazar Kathua and adjoining areas during month of May 2016. During Inspection more than170 traders of various traders were inspected and a total of 38 traders were booked for violation of various provisions of J and K Weights and Measures Enforcement (Amendment) Act 2011 and Package Commodities Rules.
On the request and with the assurance of the traders not to repeat the same discrepancies in future, out of 38 Challans , 31 Challans of the booked traders were compounded and a penalty of Rs 62,400 was imposed.
Meanwhile, LMD, Reasi booked two restaurant owners for overcharging and imposed a fine of Rs 1,200.
A team lead by Assistant Controller Legal Metrology, Rajesh Heera booked a restaurant owner for charging more than MRP on bottled water on the pretext of additional VAT. In another case, the owner of the restaurant was fined for selling curd at exorbitant rates.
