LG Mathur calls on Union Minister

NEW DELHI:The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, R K Mathur, on Wednesday met Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi to discuss the implementation of Jal Jivan Mission and other issues of PHE division in Ladakh.
The Lt. Governor apprised the Minister of the need for adequate funding and technical support for irrigation projects in Ladakh to utilize full potential available under Indus Water Treaty and for FMP projects.
He also requested for setting up of flood forecasting mechanism, establishment of Hydro-meteorological network, developing suitable flood forecasting model and a local office of CWC to expedite clearance of projects and to provide other technical support.
Regarding the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission, LG Mathur informed about the engagement of WAPCOS to prepare the DPRs and tendering procedures for the past six months.
He added that so far work under JJM has been done on the basis of DPRs prepared by the department. He stressed on the need to expedite the work to ensure timely and effective implementation of the projects under JJM in Ladakh.
The Lt. Governor also chaired a meeting with the Chairman AAI, Arvind Singh and discussed various issues concerning air services including the need of airstrips, heliports and helipads. There was also discussion on disaster preparedness and emergency relief and evacuations, etc. Commissioner Secretary Rigzin Samphel was present in the meeting.
