LG Admin playing pivotal role in preserving the cultural heritage of J&K: Martand Singh

JAMMU: Martand Singh, Trustee of Amar Mahal Museum and the Hari Tara Charitable Trust and Trustee of J&K Dharmarth Trust, said that the J&K Administration under the leadership of Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha is playing a pivotal role in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. He lauded the government’s initiatives aimed at preserving and promoting historical sites, monuments, festivals and traditions that hold significant cultural and heritage value.
In a statement issued today, Martand Singh commended the Tourism Department headed by Commissioner Secretary, Yasha Mudgal, for its steadfast support towards various cultural and socio-religious events across the region.
He highlighted the role of Deputy Director Sunaina Sharma in bolstering community festivities such as Sudh Mahadev Mela in Udhampur, Shri Sarthal Devi Yatra in Kishtwar, Mela Patt in Bhaderwah, and the development of Temples at Purmandal and Utter Behni in District Samba. These events and festivals not only celebrate local culture but also contribute to the socio-economic growth of the communities involved, he added.
Singh has also recently visited the Sir Pratap Singh Museum in Srinagar and was impressed by its excellent maintenance, highlighting a strong commitment to preserving the rich cultural heritage of J&K. The SPS Museum’s upkeep reflects dedication to showcasing cultural treasures, fostering appreciation among visitors.
Martand also met with Additional District Development Commissioner, Jammu, Sher Singh to discuss the upgradation, restoration and renovation plans for the Amar Mahal Palace Museum complex. During the meeting, the ADDC assured full support from the administration for the initiative, emphasizing its cultural and historical significance for the region.
Martand Singh also met with Sangeeta Sharma, Deputy Director, Archives, Archaeology & Museums, Govt. of J&K at Mubarak Mandi, Jammu and conveyed his appreciation for the department’s diligent efforts in conserving archaeological sites and artifacts. He also expressed admiration for Sangeeta Sharma for her passion and dedication towards the preservation and restoration of Dogra heritage and monuments across Jammu.
He emphasized the importance of preserving these historical treasures for future generations, acknowledging the dedication and expertise of the archaeologists and preservationists involved.
“As custodians of our cultural heritage, it is our collective responsibility to ensure that these invaluable assets are safeguarded and celebrated,” remarked Martand Singh. “The government’s support and collaborative efforts with organizations like ours are crucial in achieving this goal.”
Martand Singh reaffirmed his commitment to continue working closely with government bodies and local communities to further enrich the cultural tapestry of Jammu and Kashmir.
