Let researchers shun academic fraud: Prof Hamal

RAJOURI: Terming plagiarism as committing of academic fraud, Vice Chancellor of Baba Ghaulam Shah Badshah University Prof I.A Hamal has called upon all researchers of universities to shun the practice of cheating in research.
Addressing valedictory function of 10 day workshop on ‘Information Literacy and Plagiarism’ organised by University’s Central Library, Vice Chancellor Prof I.A Hamal said that plagiarism is part of the broader concept of cheating in research in which researcher submit work borrowed or copied from someone else as his / her own. He said that this equates to deceiving instructors and committing academic fraud which should be avoided in research in order to make it pure.
Calling upon all researchers of universities, Prof Hamal said that plagiarism is unethical and is not different to stealing. He said that someone’s ideas and work should be cited properly so as to make the research ethical. He added that copying is also killing the objective of research. “The point of written projects and papers by researchers is to help them critically think, create and communicate in written form and If you plagiarise, you evade this educational objective”, VC said.
Meanwhile in the valedictory function, Coordinator of the programme Ramesh Pandita presented 10 days report of the progress in the workshop and feedback by the trainees.
Dean Academic Affairs Prof A.K Koul also addressed the gathering of researchers.
Registrar Mohammad Rashid Chowdhary also called upon all researchers to make the research pure and original. He said that nobody is stopping the researchers to quote earlier work but there is proper procedure of citation.
On the occasion Head of all Departments, officers, faculty members and researchers were also present on the occasion.
