Kashmir under Chilly weather: Leh freezes lowest at minus 17.1; People Suffer

Srinagar: Life remained affected due to severe chilly weather conditions coupled with frequent and unscheduled power failure in the Kashmir valley, where night temperature has witnessed further low in Kashmir valley.

There was no respite from chilly weather conditions in Ladakh region where people continued to freeze as minimum temperature was below freezing point. Leh witnesses seasons lowest at minus 17.1.

A Met department spokesman said here there is possibility of rain or light snow on 4th of this month at isolated places in the region as fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is approaching.Mother Warms Child Feet as Chilly WEather Conditions Prevail  in valley

However, earlier two WD last week left without touching the region resulting in dry and cold weather.

Icy cold winds coupled with cloudy sky and frequent and unscheduled power cuts have affected normal life in the Kashmir valley, where people protested against Power Development Departments (PDD).

Experts have advised people, particularly children and elders to avoid moving out in the morning and evening hours when temperature goes down.

In the summer capital, Srinagar, against yesterdays minus 3.8 degree night temperature, it was minus 5.4 which is being below normal. However, cloudy sky and icy cold winds has forced people to remain indoor. People are using all gadgets, including local “Kangri” to keep themselves warm.

Met spokesman said the sky will become largely cloudy in the afternoon which could result in further chilly conditions in the city. However, the weather will remain mainly dry. The lowest so far was recorded minus 5.6 degree on December 27 when Dal Lake and other water bodies were frozen.

Because of cold, the prices of warm and woolen cloths besides coal has gone up considerably in Srinagar.

There was also considerable decrease in night temperatures in Gulmarg health resort which witness minus 4.8, Qazigund at minus 5.2, Banihal at minus 0.2, Kupwara at minus 5.8 and Leh freezes at seasons lowest at Minus 17.1.

People may get relief from chilly weather during next two days as already weather man predicted.
