Legal Metrology Department imposes Rs 26,800 as penalty to business establishments in Kathua

KATHUA: A team of the legal Metrology Department Kathua headed by the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Kathua Ajay Verma and comprising of the Inspector Legal Metrology Kathua, Vicky Sharma and Inspector Legal Metrology Dayalachack Devi Lakhanpuria conducted intensive checking of various business establishments especially provision stores, Karayna shops, sweet and bakery shops , procurement dealers, Bartan stores, woolen hosieries, Veg and meat sellers, cement dealers, Mini flour mills, gas agencies at Industrial Area, Bhagthali Road, Rajbagh, Patel Nagar, Kathua, Palli, Thanoon, Bani, ChannTanda, ChannChago, Pathwal, Dayalachack , Koota Morh, Dollian, Slalpur, Hiranagar, and adjoining areas in the month of November 2014.
During Inspection, 25 traders were booked for violation of various provisions of J and K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 1997and Package Commodities Rules and 28 Challans of the booked traders were compounded and a penalty of Rs 26,800 was imposed on the erring traders .
The Department also booked one gas agency for violation of various provisions of J and K Weights and Measures Act 1997 and on the assurance of the dealer of the gas agency not to repeat the same fault, the case was compounded for Rs 5, 000 by the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Kathua . Department directed all the traders to use only verified weights and measures for business transactions and display MRP, PKD, Net Contents and complete address and consumer care number on the commodities to be sold in package form.
The department has also warned the traders to desist from using unfair trade practices to cheat the innocent consumers and also appealed to the consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the commodities.
