Lead-less pacemaker has zero chance of infection: Dr Amit

JAMMU: Artemis Hospitals Gurgaon organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) titled ‘Recent Advances in Cardiology’ here on Saturday.
On the occasion, Dr Amit Bhushan Sharma, Senior Interventional Cardiologist at Artemis Hospitals, who has been trained extensively in worlds premier institute Mount Sinai Newyork and Michigan State University, is a son of the soil and hails from Jammu, spoke on recent trends in cardiology.
Sharma discussed about lead-less pacemakers which are as small as a rupee coin and doesn’t require major operation and has zero chance of infection.
Sharma dwelled upon new Technique of Valve Replacement (TAVR) which doesn’t require open heart surgery and can be put through the leg arteries like a stent.
The programme was chaired by prominent cardiologists of State including DR C.D Gupta, former HoD GMC Jammu, Dr Mohan Lal, former HoD and Director Cardiology at JK Medicity and Dr Susheel Sharma, Professor and HoD GMC Jammu who hailed the new technological advances and emphasised that these would usher in a new era of minimally invasive procedures without cutting the chest open and shortening the hospital stay.
“It will also provide a ray of hope to patients who are unfit to undergo open heart surgeries,” said Dr Mohan Lal.
Dr C.D Gupta lauded Dr Sharma for bringing on table all advances including Adult Coronary Structural Pediatric and Peripheral Vascular Interventions.
Dr Susheel Sharma gave details of how these cutting edge technologies will change future of health care in the State which already had experienced a transformation in recent times with complex coronary angioplasties which he has pioneered.
The programme was well attended by around 100 physicians and paediatricians from Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, Akhnoor and Samba.
