Law abiding citizen should not be bothered: DGP

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police chief K Rajendra Kumar on Wednesday reviewed security situation in the Valley and stressed for better relations between public and law enforcing agencies.

The Director General of Police said while maintaining law and order, it should be ensured that law abiding citizens are not put to any discomfort during their day-to-day activities.

Kumar reviewed the security situation at a meeting of officers from state police, paramilitary CRPF, intelligence and civil administration at Police Control Room (PCR) here.

Underscoring the importance of better relations between public and law enforcing agencies, Kumar told officers that people’s cooperation for maintaining peace, besides curbing the activities of anti-national elements is mandatory for better results.

“All stakeholders have to follow a people-friendly approach while dealing with situations and exhibit tolerance, avoiding excess use of force,” the DGP said.

During the meeting, officers representing different agencies gave appraisal about the security, law and order scenario in the Valley.

The DGP was told that coordinated efforts have been put in place to foil nefarious designs of subversive elements.

“Joint meetings of different law enforcing agencies are convened at different levels and joint operations conducted to curb such activities. These elements have been put under surveillance and all inputs gathered are shared for coordinated action,” the meeting was told. PTI
